The LRA and Sam partner to support lupus patients on steroids

If you’re living with lupus and taking steroids as part of your treatment, you’re not alone. Steroids, such as prednisone, are essential for managing lupus symptoms, but they also come with challenges - especially when used long-term. Recognizing the impact of steroids on lupus patients, the Lupus Research Alliance (LRA) is working to provide Sam as a resource to help patients navigate steroid use safely and effectively.

The LRA is the largest non-governmental, nonprofit funder of lupus research in the world. Their mission? To advance innovative research that leads to better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for lupus.

The LRA is distributing Sam through two key channels:

The Lupus Clinical Investigators Network (LuCIN) – A network of over 65 medical centers, where Sam is being introduced to clinicians via the LuCIN newsletter.

The LRA’s Patient Engagement Team – Ensuring patients can access Sam directly through LRA’s communication platforms.

By reaching both doctors and patients, this initiative aims to improve the patient-doctor conversation around steroid use and side effects.

This partnership underscores a shared commitment to improving patient outcomes and addressing the challenges of long-term steroid use. With the LRA’s help, Sam is now more accessible than ever.
